The Bellaire volleyball team finds itself in an all-too-familiar position during the 2007 season: Heavy district favorite.
The Cardinals have earned that honor by virtue of their success during coach Ap Clarke's tenure. Bellaire's 30-8 record a year ago marked the sixth time in seven seasons that the Cardinals have reached the 30-win mark. (more of the story).

Cardinals Capture
Seventh Consecutive District Title
By Carlos Febles
Houston, TX - For the seventh year in a row, the Bellaire
Cardinals are the district 20-5A Volleyball Champions. It is believed
that the seventh consecutive district title is an HISD record; however,
HISD officials could not confirm.
The Cardinals completed the regular season without losing
a single district game for the second year in-a-row. The Cardinals
finished district play with a record of 16-0 and have an overall record
of 32-8. The Cardinals won the title by defeating cross-town rival
Westside in three games. “The girls (Westside) came out here tonight
and played their tails-off,” said Westside Head Coach Smoke. “That’s
all that I can ask. Good luck to Bellaire in the play-offs”
“You’ve played your butt off,” stated Marmion Dambrino,
HISD Manager of Athletic Programs as she was handing Bellaire the
district title trophy. “The season is done but the playoff’s have just
begun. You still have your work cut-out for you. You’ve done a great
job and you have a great coach and you’re a great group of girls –
CONGRATULATIONS.”
The future looks bright for Bellaire as their JV
completed the season without losing a match in or out of district with
an overall record of 25-0. Like their big sisters in the varsity team,
the JV did not lose a single game during district play. The JV team
defeated the likes of Fort Bend Austin who’s varsity team is ranked
sixth in the Houston area by Houston Chronicle and was the only team to
take a single game from Bellaire this year. The Lady Cardinals also
defeated two private school powerhouses, Second Baptist who’s varsity
squad is ranked third in the state and St. Agnes who is ranked second in
the state. “Their awesome, great kids, great players, it was
wonderful!” said JV Coach Evans. “Hannah Jones came through with some
great hits. My setter Kara Febles is tremendous. She is going to the
playoff’s with the varsity. Johann Garcia played libero wonderfully.”
The Freshman team improved immensely throughout the
season. After suffering first round defeats from Lamar and Westside,
the team was able to avenge their defeats in the second round of play by
beating both teams. They completed the season tied for first place with
Westside.
As the JV and Freshmen players graduate to the varsity
squad, Bellaire should continue to enjoy their winning ways for the next
two years with the possibility of district title number eight and number
nine.
“I am very please with the improvement of all three
teams this season,” Bellaire Head Coach Ap Clark stated. “They all
deserve to be District Champs.
